The German baritone Hans Gr\u00f6ning received his vocal training from Kamms\u00e4ngerin Gisela Schr\u00f6ter and works regularly with Gregory Lamar. He gave his debut as winner of the Rheinsberg Palace Chamber Opera International Singing Competition. His first regular engagement brought him to the Theatre of Eisenach. Since 2004, he has worked extensively as freelance singer in Germany and abroad.<\/p>\n

He sang the title role of Wolfgang Rihm\u2019s Jakob Lenz<\/em>, a production of Muziektheater Transparant from Antwerp, at the Copenhague Opera, in Brussels, Rotterdam, Luxemburg and at the Bastille Opera in Paris.<\/p>\n

He has sung many roles at the Komische Oper Berlin, including Fafarello in The Love for three Oranges<\/em> (Director: Andreas Homoki), the title role in the commissioned work, The Rider with the Wind in his Hair<\/em>, by Frank Schwemmer, Albany in Aribert Reimann\u2019s Lear<\/em> (Director: Hans Neuenfels) and the Gypsy in Mussorgsky\u2019s The Fair at Sorochyntsi<\/em> (Director: Barrie Kosky).<\/p>\n

Prominant roles in his standard repertoire include Alban Berg\u2019s Wozzeck<\/em>, Paul Hindemith\u2019s Cardillac<\/em>, Wolfram (Tannh\u00e4user<\/em>), Telramund (Lohengrin<\/em>) and Albrich (Das Rheingold<\/i>).<\/p>\n

Gr\u00f6ning has worked with distinguished conductors such as Kurt Masur, Michail Jurowski, Alejo Perez, Markus Poschner, Matthias Foremny, Markus Huber, Friedemann Layer, Anthony Bramall and Guido Johannes Rumstadt. His many concert appearances have included the Gewandhaus Leipzig, the Wroclaw Philharmonic Concert Hall, the Cologne Philharmonic Hall, the Vienna Concert Hall and the Brucknerhaus in Linz.<\/p>\n

At the Staatstheater N\u00fcrnberg he sang the title role of Wolfgang Rihm’s Jakob Lenz\u00a0<\/i>(Director: Tilman Knabe), Telemann’s Pimpinone<\/i> and the Pirate King in Sullivan’s The Pirates of Penzance\u00a0<\/i>(Director: Christian Brey).<\/p>\n

After his successful debut at G\u00e4rtnerplatz in Munich as Ollendorf (Der Bettelstudent<\/em>) he has been engaged to sing Prince Ypsheim (Wiener Blut<\/em>) and for the reopening of the house in 2017 the part of Zeta in The Merry Widow.\u00a0<\/em>He also sang the part of Popoff in the operetta The Chocolate Soldier<\/em> by Oscar Straus (Director: Peter Konwitschny). He sang Bartolo in Rossini’s Il Barbiere di Siviglia<\/i> (Director: Josef E. K\u00f6pplinger) in Munich as well as at the Nationaltheater Mannheim.<\/span><\/p>\n

In 2023, he returned to the Staatstheater N\u00fcrnberg as General Bumm in Die Gro\u00dfherzogin von<\/i>
\nGerolstein<\/i> (director: Andreas Kriegenburg) and made his role debut at Theater Osnabr\u00fcck in the
\ntitle role in Jaromir Weinberger’s Wallenstein<\/i>. Three further premieres followed here in 2024\/25:
\nMustapha Bey in Ball im Savoy<\/i>, Pastor Stig Berggren in Wie im Himmel<\/i> and Dr. Vigelius\/ Count in Der ferne Klang<\/i>.
\nAt the Komische Oper, he sang the role of Muff Potter in the revival of Tom Sawyer<\/i>. The
\nproductions In Frisco ist der Teufel los<\/i>, Die Nase<\/i> and Nils Holgersson<\/i> are planned for the 2025\/26 season. Hans Gr\u00f6ning will make his house debut at the Landestheater Linz as Prince Ypsheim in Wiener Blut<\/i> (director: Thomas Enzinger).<\/p>\n
